The inspiration for Tom Porter’s work comes from his love and fascination of Sound Systems and Reggae music. His work in ongoing project ‘How To String A Sound’ explores the world of sound system culture in Bristol. Through photos of the people who build, own and operate sound systems. As well as singers, musicians, DJ’s, MC’s and the people who support the thriving scene, this project aims to give representation to the roots music hub that is Bristol, and offers an insight to a subculture that laid the foundations for underground music as we know it today. Tom’s photographic work has transformed since making the move from shooting digitally to using analog methods, this project is shot on his favoured Pentax 645 and various 35mm cameras. The slowed down process of using film has made Tom consider what he turns his lens towards at a deeper level.
